
This workshop is an introduction to batik, a textile dyeing technique using a hot wax as a dye resist. The session starts with an overview of what a batik simbut is and a comparison to hot wax dye resist batik. The participants will then experience a full batik making process from outlining, adding hot wax dye resist using a canting, colour using celup dip dyeing technique and wax removal. Participants will each bring back a medium handkerchief (~30cm) or a batik panel for a foldable totebag (totebag included).
Participants requirements: Min. 12 years old if working independently. Adult company or parent-kid session is required for children below 12 years old (The adult will require their own ticket). This is a beginner’s class, no prior experience is required.
